This is something different.. something that will stretch your imagination !. Take a look at this shot and try to feel it.... and also, feel the title and the description, it's worth it !! But the fun part is: see where this image takes you ????
1. What can you say about the photography rules and technics (composition, lighting, rule of thirds, story telling, etc., etc....) used in the image ? ...and
Hi Craig. I really like this image. It has great depth, and the viewer's eye is always led into the photo, towards the door. I also really like that the doorway is completely blown out. It makes it mysterious and gives the shot an otherworldly kind of quality. The texture on the walls and floor are also great. I also think the very low angle of the shot really works and was the right choice. So this is really a fantastic shot, congratulations.
Some minor points to think about (since I guess that is what we are supposed to be doing here). I know that some photogs purposefully put the foreground out of focus to lead the viewer's eye back to the important stuff. I have never been a big fan of this. Especially in your shot, I don't think you need this. You have a veritable cornucopia of lines that lead the eye toward the door. No need to have an out of focus foreground to lead the eye back into the shot. So I would have stopped down to f/8 or maybe even f/16 to keep the floor right in front of the lens in sharp focus (making that great texture even more prominent).
I also would have moved the camera a little to the left to get better balance in the lines created by the floorboards. You have one prominent line coming out from just right of center and it makes the image look just a bit tipped, especially since the door is centered in the shot. It is hard to mix symmetry (the centered door) with asymmetry (the off-centered floorboards). So it might be better if the camera were centered on a floorboard.
Other than that I guess I would just say that it would have been great if you had been able to capture a ghost floating through the hallway. Just a thought. Maybe you shout go back some night when the spirits are walking freely.
I like everything about this image. It may be my twisted sense of humor but I find it a funny image - it's the world as seen by a jailhouse rat. Everything about this photo expresses a sleazy, lowlife perspective. Nothing is quite symmetrical - it's all a little wonky and the out of focus foreground and slight tilt is right on, suggesting a hangover. It all looks grungy, like a dirty magazine. I assume the pun is intentional (it's a photograph of magazine as in "a place to store gunpowder etc"). One of the things this photo reminds me is that a title or caption can be a very powerful addition to a photo. Secondly, I am forced to recognize that even the most unprepossessing of environments can yield a good photo.
Very beautiful. Excellent view. and good composition. Gives me a strange feeling. a painful feeling. jailhouse rat? maybe not. maybe a prisoner. that has felt because of weakness. because of torture.because of pain. and now free to go. but he can't. he has felt. not enough power. looking at the corridor. no hopes. no help. every step to the end is 1km for him. every step in another torture. another pain. was he guilty?
