I recently found some of my mothers old photos from the 70s, and really want to recreate the colours that those photgraphs had. Does anyone know how I can do that in Photoshop? Thanks for the tip!!

    Great question Elora

I have been doing most my post-processing in Lightroom as it is much easier to tweak things in real time and see the results. This is especially true for playing around with color-shifts and getting different effects. I know there are a few Presets available around the web for 70's vintage kind of looks in Lightroom.

Another option is to check out the online photo editor Picnik. They have some fun effects you can apply to images and one is called 1960's. You can even add a Polaroid frame to the image...

If you are still set on using Photoshop, You can probably do something like
    1) Create Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer, set saturation to about -33
    2) Create a Photo Filter Adjustment Layer with a Yellow Filter - set Density around 50-60%
    3) Create a Photo Filter Adjustment Layer with a Red Filter - set Density around 40-50%
    4) Create a Levels Filter Adjustment Layer and slide the white thumbnail slider to the left towards center so it blows out some of your highlights
    5) Add a vignette using a layer of black, cut out a hole in the center, fade opacity to desired transparency

That should be a good starting point - you can mess with the color layers (maybe try color mixer for different results)

Here is a quick experiment (in Photoshop with above steps)

Hi Zoom - this is why I was hoping you'd post your tutorial here in the forum!

See the tool bar above the forum text box (Under the words "Add your comments")?
There is a button that looks like a blue square - next to the blue "A" - if you click on this it will let you add an image

You have to link to a URL so I put my image on Flickr and then linked to it here... you can also link to an image on your Aminus3 page but you have to go to the exact JPG like
    http://aminus3.s3.amazonaws.com/image/g0001/u00000002/i00518067/3312030f33ddaaca73e4c37731719ae2_large.jpg

And using the image button link, I paste that in and it shows the image like this

Try it out and let me know if you still can't get it working.
