I recently posted a series of pictures of miniature worlds starting with this post: http://eloradaphne.aminus3.com/image/2009-05-22.html

A few people have asked me how I made them, so I figured that the best thing to do would be to post a mini-tutorial here.

    1. You start with a panoramic image, 360° panoramas work best, but any will do, just make sure the horizon is level, and that the two ends of the panorama are the same height.

    2. Open the panorama in Photoshop, then go to Image Size. Uncheck Contrain Proprtions and make the length the same as the height. Don't worry if the image looks squished, it's supposed to.

    3. Go to Rotate Image > 180°. This should flip your image over.

    4. Go to Filters > Distort > Polar Coordinates. Click OK, leave the check mark where it is.

    5. Now you are almost there, all you have to do is blend the line that appears, in whichever way you prefer, play with your levels, contrast, colour etc, until you have the image you want.

    Et voilà! Mission accomplished!

I hope that this is fairly clear, it would be better with some screen shots, but I have no idea if we can do that here...

    Enjoy experimenting!
