As a long time Photoshop user, I now do 95% of my image editing in Lightroom 2.0. If I can't mess up an image in two minutes...what's the use? I prefer the metadata assets management capability of Lightroom over Bridge by far!
Keywords
I have set up Lightroom keywords to include all Aminus3 Categories and several common user Tags! When I dump my card into Lightroom, I assign keywords for Year, Category, and Tag where possible - or simply Year when there are multiple subjects and locations. Notions of universal tagging seem far fetched...people are people and resist wherever individual choice comes into question. I use what I find on Aminus3 for my base strings, then sometimes add something with a personal significance. This workflow is fast, saves time by keywording only the best images, and conserves disk space.
Library - The Power of X
First Look - On Import to Library > Grid View, Click on the first photo, then hit the spacebar to zoom to full screen, then L twice to view in Lights out mode. Then hit the keyboard right arrow key [nudge key in Photoshop parlance] to view each image in turn for critical focus, exposure etc. As I scroll through the photos I hit keyboard keyboard letter X [Reject] for any that do not make muster, photos of my foot etc..
First Cut - Hit [G] for grid > L lights back on. Once back in Grid view note the Rejects are grayed out. Click on the first grayed out photo then Photo > Delete Rejected Photos > then Delete from Disk. All the Rejected photos will be deleted from disk at this point. Be ruthless!
Second Look and Cut - Repeat the process above. Be ruthless again!
Final Candidate - The remaining photos can now receive the necessary keywording and are ready for editing .
Tip
1. In Smart Collections I make a new Smart Collection with the Keyword attribute -"Without Keywords". If I inadvertently forget to keyword a photo it will appear here for the appropriate action : ] 2. Before Exporting an image for posting to Aminus3, I select the photo then hit keyboard numeral 3, to assign a Three Star rating. Again, I have made a Smart Collection titled say "Aminus3 2009" with the attribute - Rating "is" Three Star [+] Keywords "contains" 2009. Now all my 2009 post to Am3 are easily retrievable as a Smart Collection. Create as many Smart Collections as necessary.
If you are totally anal [organized] you could edit the MetaData "Caption" to include the post title and date i.e. Title 00/00/00. Might be handy for the occasional and particularly important post...and it's searchable.
My Ratings

I've been on the fence on getting lightroom (mostly tired of how long bridge takes to create thumbs) - I think this tutorial has put me over the edge, and I'll buy it. Thanks Jerry for sharing your notes.
Neither Lightroom or Bridge takes full advantage multiple CPU's, but Lightroom handles thumbnail generation better. Adobe needs to get hot on this issue...more discussion on diglloyd I trashed Bridge from my CS3 install, for some unknown reason Adobe also slips Opera into the package contents, where it is invisible to most users.
