I realise my post today is not a photographic wonder, but it is significant. http://helen.aminus3.com/image/2009-02-08.html Having just having been involved in evacuating 3 members of my own family out of the path of a significant bushfire has marked me. Trying to drive my mother home to my house on back roads, because the major road were closed, I just managed to run the gauntlet of three other significant fires that blocked my path. This is actually very insignificant when one looks at what has occured across the State of Victoria, Australia in the past week. It is devastating. Temperatures in excess of 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Farenheit) and gale force winds have decimated so much of our already drought stricken country. Please spare a thought for all those people who have lost their loved ones, their homes and all they own. It is devastating.
I've seen it in the news here in Sydney, of course Helen, but have not had any personal experience of what's going on. It must have been rather frightening, and I'm glad to know that you and your family are alright. I'll now go and look at your post. Take care...
Helen - thanks for sharing this - I hope you and your family are all OK
As a global community, we can see the impact of events around the world through the eyes of our members. It is always a reminder how connected we are on this planet. My thoughts are with you, your family and everyone in Australia who has been affected by this.
Thanks guys. All is well now, thank heavens, it is raining. Unusual to have a wet Autumn, but no one is complaining here. Water tanks are full and I can see some green shoots emerging in the graden. Perhaps a new phototheme ... After the Drought. :-)
