After discussion with a couple of Am3 members I thought that it would be fun to have a where in the world is ... Over the next year. I would start it off by buying a small object which could be posted easily and cheapily take a photo with it somewhere in Chch post it on the web site and send it on to the next interested person. I thought that it might be alot of fun. I don't know if you saw in the news a while back about the stolen gnomw that travelled the world and then went home with photos of where it went. At the moment I am just trying to see if many people are interested. I thought that you could pick someone that you know on your blog site and e-mail them for their address and if they wanted to participate and then send it on. A letter would accompany it so you could add the name and blog name so it doesn't get sent to the same persone twice. Perhaps Jason could let me know if it is possible to set up a web link for this so that the photos could all be linked to one site so that you could look and see where what ever it was was.
that is a great idea - I'd be interested to do something like this! we are in the process of looking at creating collections and themes more easily so we may be able to link this there - but in general, I say lets start this project and worry about linking it up later.
... and so would I! Great idea. I know of quite a few successful ventures like this. I had heard of the gnome, but also books, teddybears that go on hols and something else that is setting out to prove 6 degrees of seperation. This would really enhance the community feel. I think there would need to be a special feature for the image though. Perhaps on the Spotlight page?
I finally was able to find this, dont laugh but it was a silly mistake on my part I had not signed onto the forum, as I have already said via message I think this is a great idea, and I look forward to joining in the where in the world is... series, and of course Bahbahra will want to be in the shot since you first mentioned the idea to me on one of her shots
Anything I can do to help with this project let me know
Great idea. That stolen Gnome idea I believe came from the french movie "Amelie" where she gave her father's gnome to a Air Hostess friend who sent back Polaroid photos of the gnome in certain locations around the world. This eventually helped her father travel the world.
Amazing these threads. I must enable the notification facility to keep track! I commented here in support if this idea late in 2008 and have only just discovered the blog recently!
