This has been going on since I joined aminus3, but when I post an image, the EXIF data from my metadata displays incorrectly. For example, when I post an image taken with my 105mm lens, it displays as 157mm (obviously posting the focal length x the 1.5 crop factor of the apc-s sensor).
And sometimes the shutter speeds are out of whack, too. For example, 1/60s will display as 5/300s.
When I post the exact same image to my smugmug account, the EXIF displays correctly.
I dont think Aminus3 does any kind of data manipulation on the EXIF data before displaying. What do you see when you right click on the image on your Windows explorer, select Properties, then the summary tab and click Details. Does the EXIF data match with what Am3 shows?
I cant speak for Smugmug, but if they are showing something that different that what actually exists in the EXIF data of the image, then they have figured out how Nikon handles the EXIF data.
I see exactly what I would expect to see. For today's image, for example, which was taken with my 85mm f/1.8, I see "Focal Length: 85mm". There is a different field, however, "35mm Focal Length." Under that I see 127 (not 127 mm; just 127). Maybe you are erroneously grabbing the focal length from that field?
I believe there is nothing wrong about how aminus3 is reading the EXIF data, what is happening with the Focal Length is that it is reading the Focal Length equivalent to 35mm, if you take a look at your photo in Lightroom of Adobe Bridge, I think Aperture too, you will see that it shows you two Focal Lengths in the EXIF, for example, the photo I posted for today has this data when I see in Lightroom [Focal Length] 95mm [Focal Length 35mm] 142mm being the one presented in aminus3 142mm. I am using a Nikon D70s, and this is something I asked myself sometime ago, but checking the info in Lightroom answered my question, I have checked with all my photos and they match with the field [Focal Length 35mm], I hope this helps answering your question.
With the different DSLRs and sensor sizes around, I appreciate that the focal length has been mapped onto a 'standard' for each shot. Therefore I think Aminus3 did indeed pick the correct focal length field to display although I wouldn't have any problems if both fields were displayed.
